Competition
Tennis players are a
competitive bunch and at the Genesee
Volley Tennis & Croquet Club we're no
different. And if you think tennis players
are competitive, you should meet croquet
players!
We offer a whole range
of competitive leagues, round-robin events
and club tournaments in both sports. Here
are a few:
Doubles
Leagues
The club offers Doubles
leagues throughout the season in both
tennis and croquet. Tennis matches are
generally scheduled at 8am, Noon and 6 pm.
Croquet is played every weekday afternoon
at 3 pm or 4 pm and sometimes both!
Players typically play
one or more doubles match per week.
Matchings are sent out by e-mail every
week based on your availability and
ability.
Club
Championships
The
club holds Club Championships every year
in both Tennis and Croquet, usually in
both SIngles and a variety of Doubles
formats.
The first Genesee Valley Club
Championships were held in 2009.
Winners were Mel Bauman in Men's Singles,
Heather Burke in Women's
Singles, Heather Burke and Dennis
Canary in Mixed Doubles and Mel
Bauman and Rock Castor in Open Doubles.
In 2010 Dave Missel pulled a
"hat trick" by winning the Mens Singles,
the Open Doubles (with partner
Gregg Hartvigsen) and the Mixed Doubles
(with wife Carole!)
Club Tennis Championships are generally held
in August with the finals of the Open
Doubles held before the Club Picnic on the
last weekend of the month.
